In a nutshell the ministry of deliverance serves the purpose of stopping the works of darkness that are operating in an individual's life. Jesus said that He came to set the captives free this is why deliverance is so important. It is not God's will that anyone live in bondage of any sort but we are to stand (abide) in the liberty of Christ Jesus. Our invisible enemy is real therefore God has given us a real solution and that is the ministry of deliverance. Without the ministry of deliverance the wicked plans, schemes and plots of the demonic forces assigned against our lives would have a greater chance of completely overrunning our lives.
Mark 7:25 “For a woman whose young daughter had an unclean spirit heard about Him, and she came and fell at His feet. The woman was a Greek, a Syro-Phonecian by birth, and she kept asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter. But Jesus said to her, “Let the children be filled first, for it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.”
Isaiah 61:1 "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;"
Galatians 5:1 "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage."
God created each one of us as a spirit in a body that possesses a soul. We are body, soul, and spirit. The soul is comprised of the mind (thoughts, memories, ideas), will (volition, intent to do), and emotions (feelings). As believers our biggest fight is the ability to train our soul. Training the soul requires lining our thoughts up with the Word, submitting our will to His will, and being stable and healed in our emotions. Demonic spirits wage the battle in our mind by bombarding us with thoughts, ideas and suggestions and as we come into agreement with these things we can see the work of the enemy in our lives.
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.- I Thessalonians 5:23
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God - Romans 12:2
The way we think, what we desire to do, and how we feel is always able to manifest in our lives. This is why it is quintessential to seek deliverance so that our spirit is leading us, our soul is conformed, and our flesh is crucified. A lack of deliverance can keep us bound in many areas and will hinder us from being able to abide and stand in the liberty of Christ Jesus. The supernatural power of God in the form of deliverance allows us to be free from bondage that we felt powerless too or that we struggled to break free from completely.
Listed below are 6 Signs that Indicate the Need for Deliverance:
1. Addiction (drug, alcohol, gambling, pornography etc.,)
Addiction in a sense makes a person a "slave" to something. Addiction keeps a person bound to something even though they are tired of that very thing but they feel powerless to stop.
II Corinthians 5:17
I Corinthians 10:13
James 1:12-15; James 4:7
2. Perverted thought life and desires
( Leviticus 18:22, bestiality Leviticus 18:23, adultery: Matthew 5:28, fornication: I Corinthians 6:18, Deuteronomy 22:5)
The depiction of the armor of God (Eph 6:10-18) includes the helmet of salvation. That helmet will protect our mind (thoughts) It is important that we do not entertain every thought that comes to our mind. A lazy mind is like a double hinged door which allows any and everything access. We must learn to filter our thoughts with the Word of God.
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;- II Corinthians 10:5
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. - Phililppians 4:8
3. Nightmares and night terrors
A lot of believers are plagued by nightmares and demonic encounters of the night. People are dealing with frightening nightmares that seem so real and/or encounters where the person is left with the inability to move or speak while being terrorized by demonic spirits. It is not God's will for us to be fearful and frightened by the enemy because of these type of occurrences.
4. X-rated dreams and encounters
Sexual sin opens the door to allow demonic spirits to manifest their wicked nature to us in our dreams. Many believers who love God are confused as to why they keep having X-rated dreams that many times are so vivid their bodies are able to feel the sensations and "respond". These are unclean spirits that are trying to keep you open to lust, perversion and sexual sin.
5. Involvment in occultic practices
Wiccans, white magic, mediums, psychics, clairvoyance, crystal, tarot cards, tea leaves, Ouija, levitation, astral projection, horoscopes, séances, etc., (new age practices)
"When you enter the land which the LORD your God gives you, you shall not learn to imitate the detestable things of those nations. "There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. -Deuteronomy 18:9-11
Unforgiveness is quite common both in and out of the church world. No matter what was done or who did it the Word declares that we must forgive if we want to be forgiven by our heavenly Father. Sometimes bad memories keep us stuck in the offense that was committed against us. Again this is why we need our minds renewed. Unforgiveness keeps us out of right standing with God and causes us to not be forgiven. Unforgiveness is a spirit that opens the door to infirmity and sickness.
But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.-Matthew 6:15
